I wouldn’t want to advertise in any book that would have me in there.

The directory of illustration called today to try and sell me a page in their source book. $2,400. Portfolio.com wants me to pay the $400 to have more images int a “titanium” level portfolio on their site. So I have two problems. (Maybe more.) 1. Do they really just want to sell me a page? There are some amazing artists in there and honestly, I just don’t see myself as on the same level. As Groucho Marx said, “I don’t want to belong to any club that would have me as a member.” 2. Let’s say that I am at least capable of creating great art. (which I think I could if I made it my priority) Then how would I get the money to pay for these promotional opportunities. It is a vicious cycle. Don’t have the money, can’t advertise, noone knows I exist, don’t get the job, still don’t have money.

I'd love to hear your thoughts!
